As of November 1, 2024, Dr. Matt Pizzuto will serve as the interim Division Chief of the Critical Care Medicine division in the Department of Pediatrics at ºÚÁÏÍø.

Dr. Pizzuto is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatrics and currently serves as the medical director for the Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit and physician service leader for the inpatient cardiology service. After completing a Pediatric Critical Care Medicine fellowship at Duke University in 2019, he initially joined ºÚÁÏÍø. Before this training, he completed a Pediatric Cardiology fellowship at the University of Michigan and pediatric residency training at Yale University. He is an excellent clinician, teacher, and leader; his research interests are pulmonary hypertension and right-sided valvular disease.

Dr. Pizzuto replaces Dr. Benny Joyner, who has served as the Critical Care Division Chief since 2013. Dr. Joyner was recently named the A. Conger Goodyear Professor and Chair of the Department of Pediatrics in the Jacob School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at the University of Buffalo. He will also serve as the Pediatrician-in-Chief at John R. Oishei Children’s Hospital, Chief of Service for Pediatrics at Kaleida Health, and President and CEO of UBMD Pediatrics.

In his years of service, Dr. Joyner stabilized and dramatically grew the division, improved care delivery, created a distinct Pediatric Cardiac ICU, and prepared it for expansion from twenty to thirty-six beds.

Dr. Misty Good, Division Chief of Neonatal and Perinatal Care will lead a national search for the next permanent Division Chief of Critical Care.

Please congratulate Dr. Pizzuto on his new role!
