Dr. Hailu听is the first certified Peds Hem/Onc trained physician in Ethiopia. He completed his PHO听fellowship in Ethiopia at Addis Ababa University in 2015, supported by an NGO called听the Aslan Project ().听 He will discuss the challenges of听completing fellowship in an LMIC听and developing the first PHO program in Ethiopia. He and the team there听are building听from the ground up, of course听fighting for much that听we take for granted – chemotherapy availability, lab availability, diagnostic test availability, transfusion services, social support, counseling, nursing training, resident training, cultural stigma,听imaging support, surgical support, radiation therapy, running water on the inpatient unit, etc.
