The Department of Genetics is proud to highlight Professor, Ms. Kristy Lee, for her excellence in clinical service, research, and service.  Ms. Lee’s scientific expertise, clinical experience, teaching excellence, and service to the community exemplifies her long-standing commitment to the utilization of genetics in healthcare.

Department of Genetics faculty, postdocs, students and collaborators published 12 papers during December 17th 2023 - January 6th 2024.

Qingyun Liu, PhD has joined the Department of Genetics as a tenure-track Assistant Professor, effective January 1, 2024. 

As part of a ºÚÁÏÍø NeuroSpark event, four research teams at the ºÚÁÏÍø won $25,000 pilot grants with the goal of increasing collaborations throughout the neurosciences.

Department of Genetics faculty, postdocs, students and collaborators published 14 papers during December 3rd - 16th 2023.

Several researchers at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill are focusing their efforts on suicide-related intervention research, but linking their work across schools and departments can be daunting.

Greg Smith, PhD (Assistant Professor, Genetics) has received a Junior Faculty Development Award from the ºÚÁÏÍø Provost’s Office.

Jeremy Purvis, PhD (Associate Professor, Genetics and Computational Medicine) has been selected as a recipient of an Academic Leadership Fellowship by the Institute for the Arts and Humanities (IAH) in the ºÚÁÏÍø College of Arts and Sciences. 

On November 29, ºÚÁÏÍø graduate students Kerstin Baran, JP Flores, Jessica McAfee, and Rachel Szymanski, volunteered their time and expertise for a Shadow a Scientist outreach event held on the ºÚÁÏÍø Chapel Hill campus.
