Dr. Kuhlman and two trainees go to Nobel Week 2024

Dr. Brian Kuhlman, along with his trainees Nick Randolph and Amrita Nallathambi, traveled to Sweden to attend the 2024 Nobel Week. They participated in various activities organized by Rosetta Commons in celebration of Dr. David Baker receiving the Nobel Prize in Chemistry “for computational protein design.”

Welcome Tigist Tamir our new faculty member

Tigist Tamir, PhD has joined the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics as a tenure-track Assistant Professor, effective December 16, 2024. Her research focuses on Cell signaling mediated regulation of metabolism and oxidative stress response in obesity and cancer. She will be accepting rotation students in Spring 2025.

Dr. Sourav Kumar Patra is a postdoctoral researcher in the Carter lab. He studies the emergence and evolution of genetic coding and protein translation machinery and, more specifically, characterizes variants of a crucial enzyme for protein synthesis called aminoacyl tRNA synthetase.
