\nHung-Jui (Ray) Tan, MD, MSHPM has been named one of the American Urological Association\u2019s 2024 Young Urologists of the Year Award Winners, representing the Southeastern Section of the AUA.<\/p>\n

Dr. Kathryn Hacker Gessner Receives ASCI’s Emerging-Generation Award<\/a><\/strong>
\nDr. Kathryn Hacker Gessner, MD, PhD, has been honored with one of The American Society for Clinical Investigation\u2019s (ASCI) 2024 Emerging-Generation Awards. This recognition underscores Dr. Gessner\u2019s engagement and meaningful contributions as a physician-scientist.<\/p>\n

Leslie Donnelly Lorbacher Awarded ºÚÁÏÍø Health APP Excellence Award for Excellence in Leadership<\/a><\/strong>
\nºÚÁÏÍø Urology is proud to announce that Leslie Donnelly Lorbacher, AGNP, MSN, RN, was recently honored with the ºÚÁÏÍø Health APP Excellence Award for Excellence in Leadership. Leslie was acknowledged during the APP Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, September 25, 2024.<\/p>\n

\nDr. Hung-Jui (Ray) Tan has been selected as the Chair-Elect for the American Urological Association\u2019s (AUA) Data Committee, effective June 1, 2024.<\/p>\n

Nielsen Selected for National Academy of Medicine (NAM) Scholars in Diagnostic Excellence Program<\/a><\/strong>
\nDr. Matthew Nielsen has been selected for the National Academy of Medicine (NAM) Scholars in Diagnostic Excellence Program. The program, funded by the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation in collaboration with the Council of Medical Specialty Societies, seeks to cultivate a cadre of leaders equipped to drive implementation of effective diagnostic strategies.<\/p>\n

Dr. David Friedlander’s Contribution to AUA Healthcare Performance Measurement Primer<\/a><\/strong>
\nDr. Friedlander recently co-authored a new American Urological Association resource titled \u201cHealthcare Performance Measurement: A Primer for Urologists.\u201d<\/p>\n

New Program Cuts Wait Times in Half for Patients With Suspected Prostate Cancer<\/a><\/strong>
\nPreviously, it could take up to three months for patients with elevated PSA levels to see a urologist. But a new program being used in the ºÚÁÏÍø Department of Urology is helping to cut those wait times in half.<\/p>\n

Empowering Oncology Professionals: Genitourinary (GU) Oncology Nursing Education Program Series<\/a><\/strong>
\nThe first series of the Genitourinary (GU) Oncology Nursing Education Program, Prostate Cancer 101, is part of an initiative spearheaded by ºÚÁÏÍø Urology\u2019s Mary Dunn, MSN, NP-C, OCN, RN is an online education series designed to equip nurses, advanced practice providers (APPs), and other healthcare professionals actively engaged in the care of genitourinary cancer patients.<\/p>\n

Tan, Bennett, Roberts, and Milowsky Awarded $1.5 million Department of Defense Testis Cancer Research Grant<\/a><\/strong>
\nA multidisciplinary research team led by PI Dr. Hung-Jui (Ray) Tan by has been awarded a Department of Defense “Peer Reviewed Cancer Research Program (PRCRP) Patient Well-Being and Survivorship Award \u2013 Pilot Clinical Trial” grant to address important survivorship issues testicular cancer survivors.<\/p>\n

Dr. Friedlander Awarded AHRQ K08 Career Development Award<\/a><\/strong>
\nDr. Dave Friedlander has been awarded the K08 Career Development Award from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) to support a project, titled \u201cUsing Mixed Methods to Reduce Disparities in Renal Colic Care: A Model for Surgical Value Transformation.\u201d<\/p>\n

ºÚÁÏÍø Urology Participates in Cutting Edge Clinical Trial of Potential New \u201cCombination Therapy\u201d for Bladder Cancer<\/a><\/strong>
\nA multi-center Phase 3 clinical trial named \u201cQUILT\u201d is exploring a potential new treatment that involves administering BCG (Bacillus Calmette-Guerin) combined with an experimental drug known as N-803 (Nogapendekin alfa inbakicept), with the goal of providing a synergistic therapeutic effect to some Bladder Cancer patients.<\/p>\n

Dr. David Friedlander Selected for AUA\u2019s Early-Career Investigator’s Showcase<\/a><\/strong>
\nDr. David Friedlander has been nominated to present at the “Early-Career Investigator’s Showcase” during the upcoming 2024 Annual Meeting of the American Urological Association (AUA).<\/p>\n

Kathryn Gessner, MD, PhD, Co-authored an article discussing currently available research regarding Epstein-Barr virus and MS<\/a><\/strong>
\nKathryn Gessner, MD, PhD, co-wrote an opinion piece providing perspectives regarding recently published work provided by other researchers on this important topic.<\/p>\n

Chan Awarded ºÚÁÏÍø Center for Health Innovation 2024 Innovation Pilot Award<\/a><\/strong>
\nDr. Katherine Chan, MD, MPH has been announced as a recipient of a 2024 Innovation Pilot Awards. Dr. Chan\u2019s project, \u201cA pilot feasibility study of a small group professional coaching intervention to decrease burnout and improve well-being among ºÚÁÏÍø Health physicians,\u201d was selected alongside 4 other projects by the ºÚÁÏÍø Center for Health Innovation.<\/p>\n

Medical Student Avani Desai’s Publications Address Financial Issues in Healthcare Delivery<\/a><\/strong>
\n Avani Desai, ºÚÁÏÍø (Class of 2026) has recently featured in several published articles, including alongside ºÚÁÏÍø Urology’s Dr. Angela Smith on the impact of financial toxicity on patient recovery and well-being.<\/p>\n
