Dr. Pauline Filippou, Chief Urology Resident has been selected to receive one of 2019’s prestigious听Pope Clinical Trainee Awards.
Dr. Filippou joins a distinguished list of 黑料网 Urology Residency Program alumni including current faculty member Angela Smith, MD, MS and David Johnson, MD, MPH who were recipients of the award in 2012 and respectively.
Supported by the John William Pope Foundation, awardees are named by the University of North Carolina’s听听with nominations voted on by all Department Chairs and Division Chiefs of cancer-related clinical and research areas.
罢丑别听Pope Clinical Trainee Award is designed to honor emerging physician-researchers for excellence, accomplishment, and dedication to cancer research and clinical care.
Dr. Filippou’s Research
Dr. Filippou was recognized for her work in conjunction with Dr. Angela Smith on evaluating the racial differences of patient-reported outcomes (PROs) among men before, during, and after undergoing surgical and radiative treatment for prostate cancer. This research was presented at the 2019 American Urological Association (AUA) Annual Meeting this past May in Chicago, Illinois.

Next Steps:
After completing residency, Dr. Filippou will be furthering her training at the听听where she will be听UW鈥檚 first female urologic oncology fellow.听There she will spend a research year investigating the early integration of palliative care within the urologic oncology clinical setting, followed by a clinical year honing surgical expertise in complex urologic oncology cases.
