Cardiovascular Diseases
Researching interventions to improve cardiovascular outcomes
Cardiovascular diseases can come in a variety of forms including myocardial infarctions, heart failure, or stroke. Despite advances in care, cardiovascular diseases remain a significant global health issue and were the cause in 32% of all deaths in 2019 making them the leading cause of death in the world [1]. In the United States, cardiovascular diseases are also consistently the main cause of death [2]. Indeed, while trends in cardiovascular diseases have varied, causes have become clearer, and interventions have evolved, cardiovascular diseases have remained the main cause of death in the US for approximately a century [3]. Despite all we have learned, further research is needed to develop new and more effective therapies that can be used to improve outcomes by both preventing future events and more rapidly and effectively treating those patients who do have clinical events.
