Allergic Diseases

Discovering causes and improving treatment

Allergic diseases result from dysfunctional immune responses and include conditions like atopic dermatitis, allergic asthma, allergic rhinitis, and anaphylaxis. Worldwide, estimates indicate that up to 20% of people have one or more allergic diseases[1 2]. Indeed, in the United States (U.S.), 1 in 3 adults and 1 in 4 children reported having seasonal allergies, eczema, or food allergy [3]. Allergic diseases including food allergy and allergic rhinitis have distinctions in prevalence or outcomes associated with or due to factors like food insecurity and lack of treatment, respectively [4].

The prevalence of allergic diseases is rising around the world [5]. Understanding the causes of allergic diseases and how to better treat allergic diseases can ease healthcare burden. The CRA is partnering with internationally recognized allergy/immunology experts in food allergy, asthma, and allergic rhinitis across ºÚÁÏÍø to better understand and treat allergic diseases.
