TARC Research Seminar: Dr. Janet Rubin; “The Skeleton in a Physical World”
November 18, 2022 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
“The Skeleton in a Physical World”
Brief Description: All organisms exist within a physical space and respond to physical forces as part of daily life. The skeleton responds in real-time to physical stresses placed on it to ensure that its structure supports its function. I will discuss how those cells responsible for remodeling skeletal structure respond to mechanical force (load magnitude, frequency, and cyclicity), and how force rearranges cellular structure in turn. Next I will discuss how maturation into cells that remodel bone is affected by mechanical force and the cell鈥檚 cytoskeleton. I will also consider how this information applies to a prescriptive for intelligent exercise.
