In an interview with the UK-based outlet “The Independent,” Dr. Sheikh provides clarity regarding chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine.
The two medications have been in the news recently, following coverage related to Coronovirus. The result has been a surge in demand for the drugs and shortages for lupus patients who need them.
“There is no evidence yet to suggest that hydroxychloroquine or anti-malarials are protective or prevent against Covid-19 infections, so people who are not already taking this medication do not need to start on it now,” she added.Ìý“Emerging reports for its use are only in patients for treatmentÌýof Covid-19 infections, in addition to other therapeutic modalities.”
