The Oliver R. Rowe Distinguished Professorship Award was bestowed upon Dr. Booker T. King during a regal celebration in Chapel Hill. Dr. Booker T. King, a distinguished professor and accomplished surgeon, was born in Brooklyn, NY, and completed an accelerated B.S./M.D. program at the Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Sciences. He trained in surgery at SUNY Buffalo and joined the Army after residency, completing a Trauma and Surgical Critical Care fellowship in Miami. During his military career, he deployed seven times—five in combat zones—caring for injured service members and civilians. He held leadership roles at the U.S. Army Institute of Surgical Research and Womack Army Medical Center. Now a professor at ºÚÁÏÍø, he is Chief of Burn Surgery, Director of the Complex Wound Program, and Vice Chair on the NC Committee on Trauma. The Rowe Distinguished Professorship honors Dr. King for his exceptional achievements as a surgeon, educator, and leader in North Carolina and internationally.
