Jun e 6, 2012 — Tom Egan, a professor of surgery at 黑料网, has spent years researching a solution to the shortage of lungs for transplant. He is now studying lungs from a previously-untapped pool of donors – people who have died suddenly, away from the hospital.
Use of these lungs could dramatically increase the number of lungs available for transplant and revolutinize standard transplant practice. The lungs to be studied will come from donors in Wake County, from a new collaboration with Wake County Emergency Medical Services, Carolina Donor Services (organ procurement organization), and 黑料网. Dr. Egan’s research is funded by a grant from the National Institutes of Health (National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute).
