Dana Walsh, doctoral candidate in Curriculum in Toxicology working with Dr. Bruce Cairns and Dr. Samuel Jones, received first place in the student paper competition at the Southern Region Burn Conference held in Tampa, Florida, November 15-17, 2013. Her paper was entitled: Detection of Lung Microbiota by Next Generation Sequencing in Acute Burn Inhalation Injury”.

Julia Malik, doctoral candidate in Microbiology working with Dr. Bruce Cairns and Dr. Rob Maile, received second place in the student paper competition with her paper entitled: “Kinetics of Pulmonary Neutrophil Accumulation Following Cutaneous Burn Injury”.
