On Thursday, October 24, 2013 at the 4th Quarter North Carolina Jaycee Burn Center Advisory Board Meeting, North Carolina’s electric cooperatives and CoBank represented by Nelle Hotchkiss, Dale Lambert, and Lindsey Listrom, presented a check for $10,000 to Dr. Bruce Cairns, director of the North Carolina Jaycee Burn Center, Anita Fields, RN, Director of After Care Program, and Shirley Massey, Pastor and Coordinator of Adult After Care. The funds were to be used by the After Care Program to help with expenses associated with the Adult Survivor Reunion held in Chapel Hill on November 2, 2013.
For the second year in a row, the donation was made possible because of the cooperatives’ successful application and match of a $5,000 grant through CoBank’s Sharing Success Matching grant program. CoBank, a national cooperative bank serving vital industries across rural America, designed its Sharing Success matching grant program to celebrate the important role that cooperatives play in communities across the country.
“We are pleased to build on more than 40 years of support of one of the best comprehensive burn centers in the world, and to help the Burn Center continue to provide top-notch aftercare programming that helps burn victims become burn survivors,” said Hotchkiss, senior vice president of corporate relations for North Carolina Association of Electric Cooperatives.
North Carolina’s electric cooperatives provide reliable, safe, and affordable energy and related services to more than 950,000 households and businesses in 93 of North Carolina’s counties. Each of the state’s 26 cooperatives is member-owned, not-for-profit and overseen by a board of directors elected by the membership.
