Cope Feurer joined the Child and Adolescent Anxiety and Mood Disorders Program (CHAMP) in 2024. Her research program integrates neuroscience, physiology, and behavior to understand the affective mechanisms linking stress exposure and adolescent depression risk. A primary aim of her research program is to understand how affective mechanisms contribute to adolescent depression risk via stress generation and depressogenic stress reactivity. A second, complimentary focus of her research program is on the role of stress exposure in the development of neurobiological and behavioral risk factors for depression. This work assesses both individual- (e.g., stressful life events) and community-level (e.g., neighborhood crime) forms of stress exposure. The ultimate goal of this research is to identify malleable markers of risk that can be used in the early identification of high-risk youth and leveraged as novel preventative intervention targets.

Prior to joining CHAAMP, Dr. Feurer received her PhD in Clinical Psychology from Binghamton University (SUNY) and completed her clinical internship and postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Illinois at Chicago. In addition to her research, Dr. Feurer also provides evidence-based psychotherapy to youth with depression and anxiety.
