{"id":2284,"date":"2017-08-17T15:30:00","date_gmt":"2017-08-17T19:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/psych\/eatingdisorders\/our-research\/participate-in-a-study\/begin-study\/"},"modified":"2020-04-07T16:16:11","modified_gmt":"2020-04-07T20:16:11","slug":"begin-study","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/psych\/eatingdisorders\/research-2\/participate-in-a-study\/begin-study\/","title":{"rendered":"Binge Eating Genetics INitiative (BEGIN)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center\">Thank you for your interest in the Binge Eating Genetics INitiative (BEGIN) research study!<\/p>\n<p>The goal of the BEGIN study is to better understand the genetic factors that may be associated with binge-eating disorder and bulimia nervosa in order to develop better treatments for the millions of people who suffer from these illnesses.<\/p>\n<p>You may be eligible to participate in the BEGIN study if you:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Have a current or lifetime experience with binge eating disorder (BED) or bulimia nervosa (BN)<\/li>\n<li>Are over 18 years old and living in the United States<\/li>\n<li>Have an iPhone (model 5 or newer)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To determine if you may be eligible and to join the study, please click on the link below and answer a few short questions:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/unc.az1.qualtrics.com\/jfe\/form\/SV_79FNxRm5edwnHSZ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">BEGIN Preliminary Screen<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s what participation in the BEGIN study entails:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Use the Recovery Record app on your iPhone to record your mood, food, and goals for 30 days.<\/li>\n<li>Complete a few questionnaires about your mental health and health history<\/li>\n<li>Provide a fast, painless sample of your saliva. To do this, we will mail you a free saliva collection kit that includes a postage prepaid return envelope so that sending your saliva sample to us is completely free for you. (This comes in a box sent to your house via FedEx).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Once you enroll in the BEGIN study using your iPhone, we will send you a \u201cBEGIN box\u201d via FedEx that will include everything that you need to participate in the BEGIN study.<\/p>\n<p>Do you have any questions, concerns, or feedback?
