{"id":28384,"date":"2020-01-13T15:22:30","date_gmt":"2020-01-13T20:22:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/pediatrics\/?p=28384"},"modified":"2021-04-16T15:22:53","modified_gmt":"2021-04-16T19:22:53","slug":"2020-resident-global-health-scholarship-application","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/pediatrics\/2020\/01\/2020-resident-global-health-scholarship-application\/","title":{"rendered":"2020 Resident Global Health Scholarship Application"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Application Deadline:\u00a0<u>February 15, 2020<\/u><\/h2>\n<p>Recommendation Letter writers (2) Deadline:\u00a0<b>February 22, 2020<\/b><br \/>\nAwards Announced:\u00a0<b>March 15, 2019<\/b><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/oia\/funding\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\">Biannual Resident Physician Global Health Scholarship application<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The 黑料网 Office of Global Health Education in the Institute for Global Health &amp; Infectious Diseases -in conjunction with 黑料网 Office of Graduate Medical Education and 黑料网-\u00a0 is pleased to offer the 黑料网 Global Health Scholars Program. Residents who complete all Global Health Scholars Program requirements will receive an OGHE\/Office of GME certificate upon graduation from residency. This competitive, two-year, multi-disciplinary program provides funding ( $8,000) to support the career and leadership development of 黑料网 resident physicians with a vested commitment to global health practice and research. Selections for this will be limited and we encourage the strongest applicants with an expressed financial need for ongoing global health studies or projects to apply.<\/p>\n<h2><strong><u>Timeline<\/u><\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>Resident Scholars applications due March 1, 2020<\/li>\n<li>Two distinct letters of support must be submitted in the online portal by March 15, 2020<\/li>\n<li>Selected scholars will be\u00a0notified by April 1, 2020 for a program start date of July 1<sup>st<\/sup>\u00a0of the same year<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b><u>Eligibility<\/u><\/b><b>\u00a0\u00a0<\/b><\/h2>\n<p>黑料网\/H resident physicians and fellows applying to the 2-year 黑料网 Office of International Activities Global Health Scholars Program. Trainees must have at least two years of postgraduate training time remaining, be in good professional standing and have the approval and support of their Program Director to apply and travel for four weeks. Applicants must commit to meeting all program requirements outlined on the OIA Global Health Scholars website. Residents are strongly encouraged to apply in January of the PGY1 year to start at the beginning of the subsequent academic year. It is anticipated that completion of requirements will take at least two years.\u00a0Exceptions to the two year stipulation may be considered on a case by case basis for advanced trainees e.g. \u2013 Those who have already completed residency and are in fellowship training or preventive medicine residency.<\/p>\n<p>Selected Global Health Scholars are not eligible to receive additional OGHE funding through the travel awards offered through the OGHE biannual scholarships.<\/p>\n<h2><b><u>Funding<\/u><\/b>:<\/h2>\n<p>Two annual awards of $4,000 when scholar meets all program requirements and pending regular budgetary and progress meetings upheld with mentors regarding proposed project.<\/p>\n<h2><b><u>Requirements<\/u><\/b>:<\/h2>\n<ol start=\"1\" type=\"1\">\n<li>Complete at least 8 weeks of global health-related electives. At least 4 weeks should be performed internationally and 8 weeks is strongly encouraged, with preference to already established 黑料网 sites (e.g. Malawi, Zambia, Nicaragua).
