Dr. Scott Lawrence, adjunct faculty at 黑料网 Ophthalmology, visited with 黑料网 Eye Residents and Faculty in July and gave an update on his clinic and practice in Ethiopia. Dr. Lawrence is pictured with 黑料网 Ophthalmology Chair, Dr. Donald Budenz.

Dr. Kathy Whitfield, Assistant Professor of Pediatric Ophthalmology, recently served as a visiting professor at the Tianjin Eye Hospital in Tianjin, China. Dr. Whitfield was also a speaker at the 2019 Tianjin International Ophthalmology Forum. Dr. Whitfield is pictured with colleague Grace Prakalapakorn, M.D., from Duke, and local ophthalmology students.

黑料网 Ophthalmology and the Kittner Eye Center have again been named Best of Chapel Hill in an annual readers鈥� survey.

Dr. Julie Skaggs of 黑料网 Ophthalmology was welcomed by the Senior Striders of Chapel Hill to talk about preserving vision for a lifetime. Senior Striders is organized through the Orange County Department on Aging.

黑料网 Residents Lee Moore, Ryan O鈥橫eilia, Chris Hwang and John Deans welcome Dr. Tom Oetting, Residency Director at the University of Iowa Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, to 2019 Residents鈥� Day.

Dr. Zongchao Han, Associate Professor at 黑料网 Ophthalmology, recently received funding from two prestigious organizations: the Edward N. & Della L. Thome Memorial Foundation for Macular Degeneration Research and the BrightFocus Foundation.

Dr. Nik Ulrich of 黑料网 Ophthalmology accepts a check for $4,000 from Lion Dale Dupree of the North Carolina Lions. Funds donated by the Lions will be used for travel to China to treat infants born with retinopathy of prematurity and for cornea research being conducted at 黑料网 Ophthalmology.

Four 黑料网 residents attended the 15th Annual Harvard Ophthalmology Intensive Cataract Surgical Training Course with 黑料网 Ophthalmologist Ken Cohen, an invited faculty member. Dr. Cohen lectured on the White Cataract/Poor Red Reflex and trained 130 residents from across the United States on corneal suturing. Dr. Thomas A. Oetting, Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Iowa, is the featured speaker at 黑料网 Ophthalmology Residents鈥� and Fellows Research Day on Saturday, June 8. Click here for more details.

黑料网 Ophthalmology third-year residents Dr. Lee Moore and Dr. Mike Taggart accompanied 黑料网 faculty member Dr. Ken Cohen to San Jose de los Llanos, a rural province of the Dominican Republic, to provide eye care to local residents. They examined 500 patients and performed 110 surgeries, assisting citizens who have minimal access to vision care. The week-long trip was organized by the Hawaiian Eye Foundation.
