I am a research scientist with an active interest in the field of benign hematology working to better understand processes that drive inappropriate activation of coagulation and thrombosis. My research is translational in nature using epidemeological and clinical observations to inform key mechanistic studies that provide critical insights into human disease.  I am particularily interested in the role of C1 inhibitor, an important endogenous anticoagulant, in the setting of venous thrombosis. We have found that humans with C1 inhibitor deficiency, causing hereditary angioedema, have an increased risk of venous thrombosis. Studies are ongoing to determine the mechanisms by which loss of C1INH enhances venous thrombosis risk.
