The Ethics of Clinical Trials in Incurable Disease

Objectives:

1. Attendees will understand the concept of equipoise as it applies to clinical research.
2. Attendees will briefly review the history of clinical research and the process of obtaining approval for conducting clinical research.
3. Attendees will gain an appreciation of the clinical progression and prognosis of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis.
4. Attendees will become aware of particular difficulties in providing informed consent.
