Emmy is from Atlanta and attended Yale for college where she majored\u00a0in molecular biophysics and biochemistry. Emmy speaks Spanish,\u00a0Portuguese, and Chinese.<\/p>\n
As a medical student, she received a full\u00a0scholarship to pursue a two-year Master of Theological Studies with a\u00a0concentration in medical ethics through Duke University. Her thesis\u00a0focused on \u201ca theological exploration of time and implications on\u00a0medicine and care for the elderly\u201d. She has published in JAGS and\u00a0Academic Medicine, serves as a peer tutor, volunteered as the IM\u00a0clerkship representative, and continues to serve as a peer mentor for\u00a0more junior students. Emmy worked as a Spanish interpreter in East Harlem during her first year of medical school. She was\u00a0recognized for her outstanding patient-focused care with induction into the Gold Humanism Honorary\u00a0Society.<\/p>\n
