08 - PCI (Percutaneous Coronary Intervention) Length of Stay InitiativeRising hospital census and physical space limitations have hindered volume growth for the Medical Center Cath Lab.  Same day discharge opportunities have offered some leverage to add volume without requiring more hospital beds or overnight observation.

The study “Percutaneous Coronary Intervention(PCI) Length of Stay (LOS) in the Cath Lab” showed that there is no difference in clinical outcomes between same day discharge following elective PCI procedures, which has been preferred by patients, and next-day discharge.

In addition to Henion, the study team included Joe Rossi, MD; Rick Stouffer, MD; Lauren E. Kearns, MSN, RN-BC; Jennifer Lukes, MSN, RN, CVRN; and Maggie Cannon, CSSBB (coach).
