While the pandemic made this year particularly challenging for fellowship recruitment efforts and interviews, a series of videos showing each program鈥檚 strengths was a creative solution, introducing viewers to faculty and current fellows, with a brief glimpse into what it might be like to join the program. And although it was impossible to replicate the experience of visiting in-person, the 黑料网 Department of Medicine came as close as possible by meeting candidates through video interviews. In the end, program directors are very pleased to recognize the following new fellows who recently matched to subspecialty training programs. They will start July 1, 2021.

“We were able to have fellows meet with other faculty outside of the division actually more easily by Zoom than in person鈥攍ess schlepping across campus鈥攎ore interactive time.聽 We were thus able to recruit someone with a PhD in nanotechnology鈥攚ho will likely work with a faculty in Radiation Oncology with a nanotechnology lab. “All in all鈥攖his was a surprisingly wonderful recruitment season鈥攆illed with anxiety and the unknown鈥攂ut due to resilience and flexibility and effort and enthusiasm鈥攚e did well in the match and are looking to train another class of amazing fellows.”聽 Residency: NYU Residency:Loyola Medicine MacNeal Hospital Residency: Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center Tiffany Long, MD

Alice Ma, MD, Director, Hematology and Oncology Fellowship Program: “I need to commend our current fellows who really took on the challenge of showing residents who may not have had any connection to the Triangle鈥攚hat it would be like to live and work here鈥擳hey did this using a variety of ways 鈥搕hey hosted Zoom dinners and Instagram Live events.聽 They reached out to applicants, and the applicants thought we did the very best job in conveying the 鈥渇eel鈥 and 鈥渃ulture鈥 of the program of any other hem/onc fellowship.聽 Due to this, we recruited 4 trainees who have never been in NC let alone the Triangle.聽 This is a stupendous achievement. Our faculty, Terri King, our amazing fellowship coordinator, our admin staff and IT support from the DOM also stepped up to make the Zoom interview process seamless.
