Amika Sood, MD, is an assistant professor of medicine in the Division of Rheumatology, Allergy and Immunology. Dr. Sood evaluates patients in the 黑料网 Allergy clinic with a broad range of allergic disorders. What brought you to 黑料网 Medical Center?
I was first introduced to the 黑料网 family during my Allergy and Immunology Fellowship training. Even though I initially took a faculty position elsewhere following my training, 黑料网 and life in the Triangle continued to hold a special place in my heart. So, I eagerly jumped at the opportunity to return when a position in the 黑料网 Allergy and Immunology Division became available.

Born and raised in Jackson, MS
Did you always want to be a doctor?
I can鈥檛 quite recall the conscious moment that I decided to become a doctor. Looking back, I think I always admired the impactful role that physicians had on my family as we were in and out of hospitals not infrequently. That is something I have always wanted to emulate.
How did you choose your specialty?
Allergy and Immunology fulfilled so many of my career interests 鈥� the ability to take care of all ages, develop life-long relationships with patients and families, and practice specialized care of a broad range of disorders 鈥� so, it was a clear fit.
What do you find most rewarding about your work?
If I can lessen the burden/anxiety of my patients and their families even the slightest bit, I find that very rewarding and an honor to be able to do so.
What are some of the new developments in your field of specialty?
Our understanding of immunological pathways that lead to allergic diseases has significantly advanced over the last d, couple of decades, allowing the development of novel biologic therapies to treat previously hard-to-control diseases.
Is there a particular achievement (professional or personal) that has been most gratifying to you?
Whether an achievement or not, I鈥檓 not quite sure, but I find being able to mentor trainees and watch them advance/succeed in their careers particularly gratifying.
What is the best advice you鈥檝e ever received?
A little bit of grace goes a long way and the golden rule (鈥淒o unto others as you would have them do unto you.鈥�) will never fail you.
If you weren鈥檛 a physician, what would you like to be doing?
So many things! Interior design, DIY home renovation projects, party/event planning, professionally baking, accounting, something in the aviation industry鈥�. Possibilities are endless!
What hobbies do you enjoy?
Building deep community with friends and family, hiking, cooking/baking, watching sports (traditionally football but now that I鈥檓 living in ACC land, I鈥檓 sure I will definitely get into basketball more!), DIY home projects

Hebrews 11:1 鈥� 鈥淣ow faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.鈥�
What was the last book you read?
The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry by John Mark Commer
