He majored in English at Yale University and received his MD degree from Johns Hopkins University. He carried out his residency training\, including Chief Residency\, and his General Medicine Fellowship at Strong Memorial Hospital of the University of Rochester. He was Director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program at Strong Memorial Hospital for 15 years from 1997 until 2012 and Vice Chair of Medicine for Education from 1997 until his retirement in 2018.  He is now Professor Emeritus of Medicine.  Dr. Bordley is very active nationally in Internal Medicine Resident Education and is a past president of the national Association of Program Directors in Internal Medicine. His outside interests include bicycling\, hiking\, skiing and playing classical and folk/blues guitar.
