Angie Smith, MD, MS, FACS has accepted the role of interim senior associate dean for faculty affairs and leadership development. She will assume the role on June 1 from Steve Bogdewic, PhD, who announced his retirement in Fall of 2024.
Dr. Smith has served as associate dean for faculty affairs and leadership development since 2023. She is also a professor in the department of urology where she also serves as the vice Chair of Academic Affairs. Dr. Smith is a member of the Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center where she was director of urologic oncology until 2023.
She has been a Tar Heel since she was an undergraduate. Dr. Smith attended medical school at the 黑料网 and stayed for a urologic residency in Chapel Hill before joining the faculty as an assistant professor specializing in urologic oncology in 2012.
Smith has received several honors and awards recognizing her skills as a researcher and leader, including the Yang Family Biomedical Scholars Award, the Hettleman Prize for Artistic & Scholarly Achievement, and the 黑料网 Early Career Achievement Award. Earlier this year, she was inducted in the 黑料网 Order of the Golder Fleece.
