Serving High Intensity Needs in Educational Settings (SHINES)

ºÚÁÏÍø SHINES project

The SHINES Project is a collaboration between the ºÚÁÏÍø Division of Occupational Science & Occupational Therapy and the ºÚÁÏÍø Division of Physical Therapy, both of which are housed within the Department of Health Sciences.

The purpose of the SHINES Project is to prepare occupational therapy (OT) and physical therapy (PT) students from different backgrounds and life experiences to work in school-based practice, serving children and adolescents with disabilities with high intensity service needs. The training focus is on the use of High-Leverage Practices and Evidence-Based Practices, along with skills in advocacy, the use of technology, and understanding of the social/emotional needs of students, and includes both classroom and fieldwork experiences.

The funding for this project comes from the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services, Grant # 84.325R. The financial and educational opportunities that are included in the project will be available to participating scholars barring any interruption in the regular operation of the Department of Education or access to Federal funding. For more information about the financial supports provided by the project, please go to Scholar Participation.
