The NC TraCS Institute is sponsoring a one-week course in the Responsible Conduct of Research organized and run by David Weber, MD, MPH, Director of the NC TraCS Institute Regulatory Core. The course covers all the NIH-required topics for the first phase of responsible conduct of research training.<\/p>\n
The NC TraCS Institute is sponsoring a one-week course in the Responsible Conduct of Research organized and run by David Weber, MD, MPH, Director of the NC TraCS Institute Regulatory Core. The course covers all the NIH-required topics for the first phase of responsible conduct of research training:
\n\u00b7 Policies regarding human subjects research
\n\u00b7 Principles for the ethical use of animals in research
\n\u00b7 Safe laboratory practices
\n\u00b7 Conflict of interest
\n\u00b7 Mentor\/mentee relationships
\n\u00b7 Peer review
\n\u00b7 Authorship and publication
\n\u00b7 Data acquisition, management, sharing, ownership
\n\u00b7 Research misconduct
\n\u00b7 Collaborative research
\n\u00b7 Contemporary issues biomedical research
\n\u00b7 Discussion sessions on the above topics using case studies<\/p>\n
The course will be held from 8 am \u2013 12 pm from Monday July 15 through Friday July 19 in Room 1131 of the Bioinformatics Building.
\nNOTE: This year the sessions have been organized so that the first 2 days will cover topics specific to human subjects research (Monday and Tuesday) with the rest of the week addressing the other topics considered part of Responsible Conduct of Research training (mentoring, authorship, etc.)
\nIn order to receive credit for course completion participants must attend:
\n\u00b7 Monday and Tuesday for human subjects training
\n\u00b7 All five sessions for Responsible Conduct of Research<\/p>\n
Individuals who are funded on an NIH-sponsored training, career development, research education or dissertation award or NSF-sponsored research project must have Responsible Conduct of Research training. If you are unclear if this applies to you, please check with your program director or administrator. For further information on the requirements for NIH and NSF, please consult the \u201cUniversity Plan for Training in Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR)\u201d (effective date October 9, 2012) at this link: http:\/\/www.unc.edu\/depts\/legal\/rcp\/RCRPlan.pdf
\nThere is no charge for the course. Participants may choose to purchase the book Responsible Conduct of Research by Adil E. Shamoo and David B. Resnik (second edition) to be used as a reference during the course and in the future.
