Diagnostic Medical Sonography is a medical imaging modality that uses high frequency sound waves to create dynamic and diagnostic images of organs, tissues, and blood flow within the body. Sonographers play an integral role in patient care and the diagnostic process. They are trained to recognize normal and abnormal anatomy and critically think through the diagnostic process based on these findings.

Ultrasound is used in a variety of clinical settings which include obstetrics, gynecology, abdominal, pediatrics, musculoskeletal, interventional, and surgical and emergency medicine. The program includes an emphasis on abdominal and OB/GYN with an introduction to vascular anatomy and evaluation.

Upon completion of the program, graduates will be eligible to become registered sonographers through the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers in the specialties of abdomen and OB/GYN.

If you are interested in being a scan model for the diagnostic medical sonography students, please click the button for more information.

Scan Model
The radiologic science program prepares students to practice competently, safely, and effectively as medical imaging professionals in diverse health care environments with awareness of global health issues. The academic and clinical foundation in the curriculum develops graduates with professional flexibility and adaptability to assume prominent roles and responsibilities after graduation in both career and scholarly pursuits.

Students progress through the curriculum and meet course learning objectives that culminate in the accomplishment of specific program outcomes. The diagnostic medical sonography goals and student learning outcomes are accessible via the Program Goals & Learning Outcomes link.

The program is nationally accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) upon the recommendation of the Joint Review Committee on Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (JRC-DMS).

Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs DMS Program Effectiveness Data

For further information please contact:

Amy Dela Cruz, M.S., RDMS, RVT, Medical Sonography Director (919) 445-4741
