The ABSS Occupational Therapy department has been working hard to think creatively ABSS OT Departmentand support our students, teachers, parents and staff during this challenging time. Our OT’s have shared ideas and suggestions within our department in order to best serve our students in a variety of ways. Some of the activities and things that we have done are mailing materials to our students in order to make cards for some of our local nursing homes, made videos to model work systems, provided suggestions for movement breaks, adapted virtual tasks so that they included movement and being outside, and providing social stories for students during this pandemic. Each week we are meeting and sharing resources within our shared drive in order to address our students IEP goals virtually. Our department has surely come together during this time and have grown as practitioners. We are even thinking of creative ways to use these virtual strategies that we have recently learned in order to help students in the future! During this unprecedented time, we are proud to be in the profession of Occupational Therapy as it allows us to think creatively, modify, adapt and truly collaborate with educators, parents and staff in order to best serve the students we all love so much!
