Mitchell Symposium: “Environmental Sustainability and Everyday Occupations”

This year’s Mitchell Symposium will be held virtually and features a lecture and Q&A presented by Moses Ikiugu, PhD, OTR/L.
This annual event is dedicated to the late Marlys Mitchell, PhD, founder of the MS OT program at ºÚÁÏÍø, and her husband, Earl. We invite you to a public lecture that is part of a two-day symposium in which students will have opportunities to discuss Dr. Ikiugu’s work.

About Dr. Moses Ikiugu
MosesÌýIkiugu, PhD, OTR/L is . He is a leading scholar in addressing the relationship of human occupation to environmental sustainability. He served in leadership on the teams to develop the WFOT Statements: Environmental Sustainability, Sustainable Practice within Occupational Therapy (2012) and Sustainability Matters: Guiding Principles for Sustainability in Occupational Therapy Practice, Education and Scholarship (2019). In recent years he has authored many publications and presented internationally to bridge everyday occupations and practice to the global concern for our environment. This work extends to interprofessional work as co-author of the Association for Medical Education in Europe (AMEE)ÌýÌý(2021) Consensus Statement: Planetary Health and Education for Sustainable Healthcare.
Dr.ÌýIkiugu’s contributions to the profession include work in psychologically rewarding occupations, theory based practice, mixed methods research, meta-analysis, and bringing sustainability into the scope of practice in occupational therapy. Dr. Ikiugu graduated from the Kenya Medical Training College, Amani Counseling Center and Training Institute, United States International University-Africa, and Texas Woman’s University. HeÌýserved as USA Delegate to WFOT from 2015-2019.
