The Department of Allied Health Sciences honored three of its faculty members on Thursday, December 8, 2016, with the creation of three inaugural awards.聽Melissa Culp, with the Division of Radiologic Science, is the 2016 recipient of the DAHS Innovation and Achievement Award.聽Dr. Susan Beck, director for the Division of Clinical Laboratory Science, received the DAHS Leadership Award. Dr. Elizabeth R. Crais received the inaugural聽Lee McLean Award for Excellence in Faculty Mentoring聽in November. The awards will recognize faculty members every other year for their dedication to the DAHS.
The DAHS Innovation and Achievement Award honors faculty members who have achieved the following:
- Three or more years in the DAHS at 黑料网-Chapel Hill
- Any rank (tenure or non-tenure track)
- Excellence in teaching, research, service or a combination
- A record of innovation in teaching, research, service (or a combination)
- Evidence of collaboration and forward thinking leadership (e.g. helping to move the program or profession forward).
In their nominations, DAHS faculty and staff mentioned the following about Culp:
鈥淢elissa is loved by her students for her commitment to teaching and her ability to prepare them as ideal competitors in an intense imaging market.鈥
鈥淢elissa Culp has proven to be a model academician and educator, a leader in global radiology outreach, and a supportive and creative colleague.鈥
During the celebration, Culp credited her division鈥檚 team in for their guidance, mentorship, and hard work over the years.
The DAHS Innovation and Achievement Award honors faculty members who have achieved the following:
- Six or more years in DAHS at 黑料网-Chapel Hill
- Rank of associate or full professor (tenure or non-tenure track)
- Excellence in teaching, research, service or a combination
- Sustained contribution in area(s) of expertise
- Contributions that have advanced the mission of DAHS
- Evidence of continuing contributions
Dr. Susan Beck鈥檚 nominations highlighted the following:
鈥淪he has the respect of the entire faculty and their appreciation for her sustained leadership.鈥
鈥淒r. Beck has provided consistent and thoughtful leadership, mentored junior faculty and has a gift of bringing out the best efforts in both faculty and students.鈥
鈥淚鈥檝e really been able to work with some wonderful people, and I鈥檝e always been impressed by people in this department,鈥 Beck said.
She also thanked those in leadership roles in our department, including聽Dr. Stephen Hooper, current DAHS chair.
