WRAL News wanted to know North Carolina’s chances of seeing the same numbers, so we asked 黑料网 virologist Marke Heise.
鈥淚 think there鈥檚 a large agricultural community here in North Carolina, especially in the poultry industry,鈥 he said.鈥漈hat is a concern for North Carolina, just like in many other states, where the poultry industry is quite large.鈥
While he said it鈥檚 concerning, Heise said it doesn鈥檛 make the state an enhanced risk compared to other states.
As for how those infected are cooping, Heise said most are experiencing mild respiratory symptoms, but most are doing okay.
鈥淥ther people have just had their eyes affected with conjunctivitis, but in general, it hasn鈥檛 caused severe disease in humans,鈥 he said.
Millions of domestic birds have been killed in Colorado to prevent the virus from spreading.
Here are some of the ways you can protect yourself from the virus:
- Avoid direct contact with wild birds or other animals infected with or suspected to be infected with bird flu.
- If you have direct or close contact with infected or potentially infected birds or other animals, wear recommended personal protective equipment.
- Do not touch surfaces or materials contaminated with saliva, mucous or animal feces from wild or domestic birds or other animals with confirmed or suspected bird flu
- Do not touch or consume raw milk or raw milk products, especially from animals with confirmed or suspected bird flu.
- If you do become sick within 10 days of exposure, the CDC recommends isolating at home away from family members, and not going to work or school until it is proven you do not have bird flu.
