Ms. Kimberly Foss has been promoted to Associate Professor in the Department of Genetics.
Ms. Foss received her BS in Biology at 黑料网-Chapel Hill (2009) and her MS in Genetic Counseling at University of Colorado Denver -Anschutz Medical Campus (2012).聽 She was certified as a Diplomat of the American Board of Genetic Counseling in 2012.聽 Ms. Foss was employed as a Genetic Counselor at the Levine Cancer Institute, Concord NC (December 2012-January 2015) and at the Seattle Children鈥檚 Hospital, Seattle WA (March 2015-December 2019).聽 She was appointed Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Genetics at 黑料网-Chapel Hill in December 2019.聽 She was named Assistant Director of the GENYSIS Core in 2022.
Ms. Foss鈥檚 research is focused on expanding genetic testing beyond traditional Genetics clinics.聽 Her work with eConsults and point-of-care testing has provided an opportunity for newly diagnosed cancer patients to receive genetic testing by their oncology team with the support of genetic counselors and without additional visits or travel during a chaotic period of receiving a cancer diagnosis. Expanding genetic services is also arising as a key concept to the general population, as interest in genetic screening becomes integrated into routine medical care with the opportunity to personalize health maintenance strategies. Her leadership in the Precision Health Genetic Screen (PHGS), offered through the Program for Precision Medicine, is following implementation science frameworks to identify the barriers and facilitators to this new clinical offering.
