Karen Mohlke, PhD (Professor, Genetics) received a subcontract for a new multi-PI R01 awarded to UCLA and funded by NIDDK.
The project is titled 鈥淕enetics of adipose cell-type expression and cardiometabolic traits鈥.聽 The goal of the study is to improve understanding of cell-type-specific transcriptional mechanisms of cardiometabolic disease (CMD) traits and disease outcomes in subcutaneous adipose tissue. Overall, the experimental approach will leverage the existing wealth of information available in GWAS and bulk adipose RNA-seq cohorts to elucidate the largely unknown biological mechanisms in the adipose tissue that drive CMDs.
