Research Administration
Carena Cornelssen obtained her B.S. from Penn State in 2010 in Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Management and her Ph.D. from the University of Utah in Biomedical Engineering in 2024. During her Ph.D., Carena was awarded the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP). Her Ph.D. focused on developing focused ultrasound (a noninvasive medical device) treatments for drug-resistant epilepsy in animal models of epilepsy. Prior to graduate school, she managed human neuropsychiatric clinical studies at Stanford University for over three years. Carena brings a diverse background in business and project management, coupled with a translational research background ranging from collaborative clinical studies to medical device and pharmacoepidemiology animal studies. This will allow her to adapt and serve a wide variety of genetics faculty and projects of the department. Carena will work with Dr. Sarah Schoenrock, the Director of Research Project Management and serve large group science projects.
Examples of Grant Project Management services I can provide:
- Monitor progress of grant objectives and deliverables
- Technical and scientific writing (IRB applications, publications, data/resource sharing)
- Coordinate communication and meetings among research groups
- Assist with development and submission of RPPR鈥檚 and grant renewals
- Support monitoring of grant financials
