
On March 2, more than 50 faculty members from the Department of Genetics gathered at the North Carolina Botanical Gardens for an all-day strategic planning retreat.
Following introductions and icebreakers, Genetics chair Dr. Fernando Pardo-Manuel de Villena reviewed the prior 6.5 years of department achievements in faculty affairs, research productivity, education,聽 policy and process, service, and honors/awards.聽 The retreat featured sessions on 鈥淢ission and Branding鈥, 鈥淪uccession Planning鈥, and 鈥淪WOT Analysis and Actionable Strategies鈥.聽 The feedback from the retreat will be utilized to build a five-year strategic plan.
The mission statement of the department was revised during a lively, iterative working session:聽 We advance fundamental, translational, and clinical research in genetics and genomics through innovation, education, and collaboration.
