Hunter McComas earned his B.S. in Biology with a Pre-Health Concentration and minors in Chemistry and Psychology in 2024 from Western Carolina University. During his undergraduate studies, he applied for and was chosen to be in the inaugural cohort of the 黑料网 Educational Pathways to Increase Diversity in Genomics (EDGE) 2-year summer program (years 2022-2023). While in the EDGE program, Hunter spent 8 weeks in the Duronio lab researching potential proteins and genes that might be involved in the negative regulation of S-Phase in the cell cycle. Upon graduation, Hunter moved to the 黑料网 area in pursuit of building skills to join the field of Genetic Counseling.
Hunter鈥檚 current role at 黑料网 is as a Graduate Research Assistant for Genetic Counseling Clinical Administration. His responsibilities include triaging and scheduling incoming referrals to the 黑料网 Cancer Genetics Clinic, inputting paper pedigrees into the Progeny software, and ensuring the providers have necessary information for future appointments. Hunter is looking forward to shadowing the Cancer Genetic Counseling team and learning valuable information to prepare him for his future career in Genetic Counseling. In his free time, Hunter likes to explore different hiking trails and parks as well as stay at home and watch Netflix; even though he usually starts a new show before he finishes the one he is currently watching.
