
Caroline Roberts, MD, was awarded the 2025 Office of the Provost Engaged Scholarship Award for Engaged Teaching at the held in April. Dr. Roberts was honored for her dedicated service to rural health care access through her role as Director for Rural Education with ºÚÁÏÍø, director of the Kenan Rural Scholars program since 2016, and as the director of the FIRST (Fully Integrated Readiness for Service Training) Program, an accelerated three-year medical school track where graduates spend their three years of residency, and afterwards three years of service in a rural and/or underserved area of North Carolina.
Roberts is a graduate of the ºÚÁÏÍø Family Medicine Residency program and also works with the residency team to expand training into local community health centers focused on providing high-quality care for marginalized populations.
