Dr. Iweala is an allergist and immunologist and an assistant professor in the division of Rheumatology, Allergy, and Immunology at the University of North Carolina ()-Chapel Hill. She is the Director of the Allergy Mast Cell Disorders Program. As part of the Food Allergy Initiative, she studies mast cell inhibition in the treatment of food allergy, the immunologic mechanisms behind alpha-gal mammalian meat allergy, and the epigenetic regulation of allergic responses. She also studies how cutaneous and gastrointestinal parasitic infestation impact host immune responses to foods and vaccines. She has clinical interests in individuals with mast cell disorders, chronic urticaria, and alpha-gal syndrome.
