The purpose of these visits is to provide the opportunity to hear scientific talks by national leaders, to develop new research initiatives and to showcase the center. In addition to formal presentations, the visiting professors meet with faculty and fellows.

The CGIBD Research Day is held each year in conjunction with the visit of our External Advisory Board. Members of the External Advisory Board lead a breakfast discussion about academic skills including time management, work-life balance, promotion, publication and funding for junior faculty and fellows. Research Day also includes brief presentations by pilot-feasibility applicants.

Each year the Center organizes research symposium. The purpose of the symposium is to present cutting-edge science within the theme of the CGIBD. The symposium features a keynote address by a national expert and talks by senior and junior local experts from our various campuses. The symposium is followed by a poster competition with entries from trainees.

Photo Gallery
A poster session, held in conjunction with our annual research day, provides an opportunity for students, postdocs and fellows to present their research. A prize is given to the best poster.

Entry Form
Each academic year the Center conducts a research competition. Two senior scientists judge the competition. Judges include basic and clinical scientists. Any undergraduate, graduate or postdoctoral fellow working in the lab of a CGIBD member is eligible to participate. The winner is awarded a $1,000 for educational/scientific supplies or to support publication costs. Runner-up presenters receive a $100 gift card.

In April of each year a preparatory seminar provides an opportunity to present scientific talks that will be presented at Digestive Disease Week, the meeting attended by the largest number of center members. There are several goals of the seminar: 1) to provide detailed critique of the scientific content and the presentation technique of the speaker. 2) to give the presenter an opportunity to practice answering questions similar to those that might be posed at the meeting. 3) to provide a chance for people who were not planning to attend DDW with a chance to hear the scientific talks.

Weekly Research Seminar The weekly Research Seminar provides a venue for Center members to present their research.
