May 2013 \u2013 Professor James Faber<\/a> will receive R01 funding from the National Institutes of Health \u2013 National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke<\/a> for his project, \u201cTargeting the pial collateral circulation for mitigation of cerebral ischemia.\u201d<\/p>\n

This project will: 1) use congenic fine-mapping and other approaches to identify the polymorphic genetic element(s) in the Candrq1<\/i> locus that we have found is responsible for the wide variation in abundance of collateral vessels and susceptibility to ischemic tissue injury in brain and other tissues of the mouse, and 2) will use RNA-Seq, FAIRE-Seq, ChIP-Seq, gene targeting and other methods to define the signaling pathway driven by this locus that controls formation of the collateral circulation.<\/p>\n
