Why Certain Cancer Treatments Cause High Blood Pressure

August 2009Carie Facemire, PhD, research instructor in the Arendshorst lab, made the news for her work while at Duke in the lab of Thomas Coffman, MD. Dr. Facemire is a 2005 graduate of this department and she conducted her postdoctoral training in the Coffman lab. Her paper, “Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor Receptor 2 Controls Blood Pressure by Regulating Nitric Oxide Synthase Expression,” was published in the journal Hypertension with an accompanying editorial commentary highlighting its significance in the field. Duke University issued a press release on it that was subsequently picked up by other online media outlets.
