Developing neurons acquire a complex, polarized聽morphology, which underlies their specialized聽physiology and is聽essential to the formation and functional connectivity of the nervous聽system. This聽entails concerted insertion of membrane material to fuel聽plasma membrane expansion and localized聽cytoskeletal reorganization to聽directionally extend the plasma membrane. Our goal is to define聽mechanisms by which distinct neuronal guidance cues influence the聽membrane trafficking and聽cytoskeletal machineries that steer聽morphogenesis and consequently, connectivity and behavior. 聽We聽do this聽in a supportive, engaging, and fun environment of scientific discovery聽and training.
