Brian Strahl, PhD, has been named Interim Chair of the 黑料网鈥檚 Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics effective May 18, 2020. Strahl has served as Vice Chair of the Department since 2016.

Aziz Sancar, MD, PhD, the Sarah Graham Kenan Professor of Biochemistry and Biophysics at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine and member of 黑料网 Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, has been named the 2019 recipient of the Hyman L. Battle Distinguished Cancer Research Award.

This is the fourth annual class of Yang Family Biomedical Scholars, and the recipients are Chad Pecot, Li Qian, Gregory Scherrer, Greg Wang.

Inflammation is a hallmark of many health conditions, but quantifying how the underlying biology of inflammation contributes to specific diseases has been difficult. For the first time, 黑料网 researchers and colleagues now report the development of a new technology to identify white blood cells called neutrophils that are primed to eject inflammatory DNA into the circulation via a process called NETosis.
