The 黑料网 Chapel Hill School of Medicine鈥檚 Cryo Electron Microscopy Core is excited to announce that were awarded North Carolina Biotechnology Center Innovation Impact Grant (GII) for the acquisition of a Thermo-Fischer Scientific (TFS) micro-crystal electron diffraction (microED) package.聽 This package includes an upgraded camera sensor (Ceta D camera, which is a type of CMOS based CCD camera designed specifically for collecting electron diffraction data) and software EPU-D for collecting MicroED data with their existing cryo-transmission electron microscope.

Our new Director of Finance and Administration, Latasha Mingo, will join the department on April 17, 2023.

This publication was for a research project that he was working on at Boston Children鈥檚 Hospital before coming to 黑料网.

In a conversation with Amelia McCue, a 5th-year Ph.D. student in the lab, we tried to unravel what the lab is currently working on. Her work centers on targeted drug delivery, and the big problem she tries to solve involves the design of antibodies that can bind two different things (bi-specific antibodies).

Gage O. Leighton successfully defended his PhD dissertation titled Probing the Importance of MBD2 in the Localization and Formation of the NuRD Complex on April 6th 2023. His thesis work was completed under the direction of Dr. David C. Williams Jr.聽

This research project was a collaborative effort supported by senior authors, Dr. Wolfgang Bergmeier and Dr. Robert Nicholas (Pharmacology).聽 Other contributing members include research staff: Wyatt Schug, Emily G. Clark, Katie Poe; and Drs. Jean Marie N. Mwiza, Tomohiro Kawano, and Nigel Mackman.

Dr. Odessa Goudy successfully defended her thesis, titled 鈥淐omputational design of autoinhibitory domains for a protease-activated PD-L1 inhibitor鈥� on Friday, February 17th. As a graduate student, Odessa was an active member of Brian Kuhlman鈥檚 lab and a student leader within the Biochemistry and Biophysics department.聽

Our faculty and research assistants presented posters to welcome BBSP-admitted students and encouraged them to join us in our Biological and Biomedical Sciences Program at 黑料网 Chapel Hill.
