The annual Dean’s Performance Awards honor employees whose work helps the ºÚÁÏÍø achieve its vision of becoming the nation’s leading public school of medicine.
The awards span six categories aligned with the School of Medicine’s strategic plan, Forward Together: research, service, education, faculty, diversity, and administrative infrastructure. The Committee acknowledges and thanks to the other 2021 nominees for their extraordinary efforts this year.

First established in 1879 and expanded to a four-year program in 1952, the ºÚÁÏÍø has a long tradition as one of the nation’s leading medical schools. The School of Medicine is currently ranked 1st in primary care and 23rd in research by U.S. News and World Report. The school’s 1,700 faculty members provide clinical services in the inpatient units at ºÚÁÏÍø Hospitals and the outpatient clinics on ºÚÁÏÍø campus while training the next generation of health care professionals. The school has campuses in Asheville, Charlotte, and Wilmington as well.
The ºÚÁÏÍø Human Resources Office is responsible for personnel functions for over 5,466 faculty and non-faculty employees, 2,302 permanent and temporary staff, and 1,200 graduate students and postdoctoral fellows.
