The fellowship starts with regional anatomic dissection on a cadaver over a period of 4 weeks. Our fellows learn the anatomy firsthand by direct exploration. This course also involves repeated ultrasound guided needling training and targeted feedback by expert faculty on avoiding pitfalls and learning the correct procedural milestones.<\/p>\n

Our fellows rotate through the emergency department and gain point of care ultrasound experience by scanning a variety of patients presenting to the ED.
\nIn addition, they get POCUS experience by scanning patients in the recovery room, as well as during live scanning educational sessions.<\/p>\n
Our didactics include weekly lectures, scanning sessions, monthly journal clubs including multi-institution journal clubs. Our fellows also get formal mock orals and OSCE sessions, faculty career development lectures, and Grand Rounds. Our fellows have access to Anesthesia Toolbox curriculum. Our fellows are also involved in teaching residents on the rotation.<\/p>\n
Several core faculty members are involved in QI projects involving regional anesthesiology and pain medicine within the department, as well as multidisciplinary projects with other departments. Our fellows have opportunity to participate in QI projects.<\/p>\n

Our fellows work as course faculty for the Annual Regional Anesthesia Cadaveric Workshop for the residents where they teach the dissected anatomy as well as procedural simulation.<\/p>\n
Our fellows are involved in clinical and anatomic research. We have excellent representation at ASRA Pain Medicine Annual Meeting, and every year our fellows take high quality abstracts to share with the regional anesthesia community. Our goal is to help each fellow get their research published by the end of their fellowship. They are also involved in presenting at regional meetings, including Triangle Regional Anesthesia meeting.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
