In December, Dr. Chen and a collaborative team comprised of ºÚÁÏÍø Anesthesiology residency program leadership* and ºÚÁÏÍø CIO Jill Jemison, MBA, received a three-year, $100,000 grant for a project entitled, “Enhancing Competency-Based Assessment” that will develop an AI-powered, real-time support system to improve the quality and immediacy of faculty feedback in resident evaluations. Dr. Chen’s team will design a system that eases cognitive overload, standardizes feedback and supports on-the-job training for faculty. The project additionally seeks to enhance feedback validity, reduce faculty workload, and foster broader application across ºÚÁÏÍø’s medical education programs.

Working with faculty and scholars within and beyond ºÚÁÏÍø, Dr. Chen has designed, implemented, and evaluated multiple research projects for curriculum improvement, simulation-based education, clinical feedback, formative assessment, and resident wellness. Dr. Chen serves on the Academy of Education (AoE) Leadership Council and works on initiatives across the ºÚÁÏÍø medical education community to improve its teaching practices and scholarly activities.
